Thanks again.
This stuff is very confusing to me and that's why I called and spoke to a SOCAN rep directly. The rep said I have a number of options available, including me buying a license as a 'music provider.', where i would pay SOCAN a fee monthly based on the sales amount of the music that I am providing.
Rest assured people, i want to do this correctly and legally. There are many music provider services out there that do exactly this: provide music to bars and restaurants, ie www.pcmusic.ca
These companies need a SOCAN license and does the establishment.

did this rep also mention that www.pcmusic.ca has AVLA licenses that allow them to do this?
and that these Licenses cost them more then $14000.00? (they also do video)
It seems like you ARE doing your due diligence on this.. Cudo's on that!
next step is you need to contact the AVLA and get the rest of the info you need..
don't forget to post your results! I'd be interested to see how the AVLA responds!

How about if he makes mixed cd s, then would be his performance and he could sell it, drop in some custom dj drops and is realy yours although I think that it might be a lenght limit of a song that you can use in your mix for free, not the entire song.

In Canada you are allowed to make mix CD's for promotional purposes, but lengths of each song is limited to 30 sec each :-(
These CD's CAN NOT be sold, unless you get the original artists permission (for every song)
