Topic: Virutal DJ is showing the wrong bitrate for my mp3 files?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi

Have posted this already, but wondering if you guys can help at all. Ive recently started noticing, that VDJ is reporting that some of my tunes are 128kbps and I know they are at 320k because I ripped the CD's myself, and do not use VBR, and made sure I ripped at 320k.

Ive checked using windows, and Windows is reporting it correctly, at 320k.

Ive also checked any ID3 tags that could be confusing matters, and theres nothing there to suggest the file is 128k either.

This is causing problems for me, is there a solution for this pls? Anyone else noticed it?

Thanks

No solution. Long known Virtual DJ bug.

If you know its 320.. Does it really matter that its not showing up on vritual dj ? Is it effecting you from DJ iing ?

My thoughts exactly. It's like making your kids wear a sign around their neck that says how old they are, not exactly necessary.

The most important features for me is the tags.. I dont really care about anything else. When started DJ iing, i mixed songs inside my head without knowing BPM's. I can tell what song goes with another without looking at numbers. There are many djs that need this but i dont.

Well, I know it's a known problem with VBR mp3s. Can't say I've noticed it with 320kbs files.

What problems is it causing for you?

The problems its causing is Im going through and cleansing my tracks and replacing old ones which are 128k, with newer 320k, and re-ripping cd's as needed. Ive noticed, that ive been deleting some tracks, which I thought were 128k, and they are actually 320!

I often sort tracks by bitrate in VirtualDJ too, showing which versions I have which are higher quality...

Its a pain, because where its showing 128k now, I cant trust its giving me the right reading.

If VDJ is not giving you the correct bitrate (which is odd), just do your cleansing through iTunes. Also, you can use iTunes to weed out the lesser quality duplicates. I tag, sort and manage all of my tracks through iTunes, not VDJ, that way I know if I ever have a problem within VDJ or I switch to another DVS all my track info etc. will be correct.

I'm having the same issue with Numark Cue. Files that I knew were loaded in as 320kbps show up with a bitrate of 128kbps when I view the file info by right clicking on the file and going to file info.

If I view the file properties from windows explorer, they show as 320kbps.

What could be causing this?

Here is a tip, at least what i do in case i have duplicate files and virtualdj report a wrong bitrate.

Open the info window for the file you are in doubt (better assign a keyboard shortcut for easy access),
and check the filesize and length.
For a cbr 128 kbps consider about ~1Mb for every minute.
So if you see a 10Mb / 5min file this can't be 128 for sure, it is 256 cbr or has an average of 256 vbr

I hope this helps.

Do you think will this bug be fixed in future? It is a bit irritating..

Just FYI: If you replace a 128kbps file on your music library with a 320kbps file that's exactly on the same place (thus it has the same path, filename and extension) there's NO WAY for VDJ to know it before you load that track on a deck OR re-analyze it...

In other words: If you replace your old files with newer ones doing overwrites you have to RE-ANALYZE your tracks in order to have VDJ fetch the new info and report the correct bit rate.
Even Check/Clean/Fix will not solve THIS issue since VDJ just checks if the files are present. It doesn't reload the info about your files.
