Topic: Any Success Stories with Pioneer MEP-7000 or SEP?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Any mobile or club jock have any success stories using the Pioneer MEP-7000 or controller with VDJ v6?

I played with this unit at the DJ Expo show and fell in love with it. I need to replace my CMX 3000 and this would be perfect.

I've been thinking about upgrading my DMC2 to SEP-C1, so I'd be interested in hearing peoples' experiences. Especially how it compares to DMC2, which is awesome in terms of functionality because it's tailor made for Virtual DJ.

Does the MEP-7000/SEP-C1 have HID-functionality so duration and other track info will be displayed on the device?

On the one at the Expo the track information was being displayed on the unit.

ahhh.

Well I ordered mine today. It will be here tomorrow! This weekend I am going to give it a complete workout. I hope I don't have any trouble tweaking the mapper to my liking.

First gig using the device is Oct 3.

Let us know how you get on and how configurable it is. I've still got my eye on one :)

Did you go for the full MEP or just the SEP controller?

I'm really struggling to get sound out of my MEP with VDJ.

What settings should I be selecting?

I loved the MEP-7000 but I would not recommend it to anybody who is not using windows XP. I could not get the ASIO sound card driver to install on either vista or windows 7, I later read that it worked only with XP but I didn't try it since I dont have a Windows XP machine and I didnt want to go through the hassle of doing a dual boot of XP on my Windows 7 machine. I was able to get MIDI working on Windows 7 32bit but nothing at all on windows 7 64bit, it's a shame Pioneer does not update the driver.
It also sucks that you have to have the head unit connected to the cd drive unit in order to have the sound card function, it would have been cool to just have the sound card built into the head unit like the Denon DN-HC4500

In my humble opinion I think if your strictly going to be using VDJ the numark DMC2 is better, it never gave me problems like the Pioneer did and I found the layout on the numark much better suited for VDJ. If you want to have the flexibility of mixing audio CDs, mp3 files and doing MIDI with VDJ then then go with the MEP, the unit also works great with Karaoke just make sure the ASIO driver works with your computer because if it doesn't your going to have to buy an external sound card to make it work.

If you must have a high end rack-mount dual CD player that does MIDI with VDJ I would highly recommend a Denon DN-HC4500 with the BU-4500 drive unit, the only thing is that the Denon does not do Karaoke like the Pioneer unit but VDJ can handle the Karaoke.

I have owned all 3 units and my recommendations for 19" rackmount VDJ compatible unit is as follows:
#1 Denon DN-HC4500 Why? Because it worked an all the operating systems I tried it with, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 32bit and Windows 7 64bit. Denon is constantly updating its asio drivers and firmware keeping your unit working great. The unit works great with VDJ, high quality unit with the flexibility of being able to play Audio CDs if you buy the optional BU-4500 unit. Unit has a high quality 24bit ASIO sound card. Serato Approve Controller.

#2 Numark DMC2 Why? it's very affordable, decent quality build, I think the layout is perfect for VDJ but on the downside it does not have a built in ASIO sound card and it will not play audio CDs This unit is also a Serato approved controller.

#3 Pioneer MEP-7000 Why? Good quality, great for playing CDs or MP3 files off a flash drive, the unit will do karaoke, has a very nice color screen and has great effects....the bad was the driver, I wish pioneer would update the driver for the unit. I could not get the ASIO driver to work on Windows 7 64bit, Windows 7 32bit or Windows Vista 32bit.....I did get MIDI working on Windows 7 32bit and it worked great with VDJ, too bad I needed to use and external sound card, for the price of this unit I would expect Pioneer to have a compatible driver. This unit is also a Serato approved controller.

I fully agree with your comments. The HC-4500 is solid as a rock, sounds good and is mega configurable with VDJ. I have had my one well over 2 years and it's brilliant.

The MEP looks nice, but as you say the SEP-C1 part is useless without the base unit as it has no sound card.

Add to those things the price ..... the HC-4500 with base unit is well below the MEP-7000 price. Pioneer have not updated the firmware to improve the interface and the drivers are way behind which is disappointing.

I will be getting the DN-MC6000 combo unit for my pub gigs but the HC-4500 is staying in the club as it is simply excellent.
