New user here, building out many of my lists (using virtual folders) Hoping to use it tonight for first time at gig!!!!
Anyway, am I missing something, or is there no "Position" or "Number" shown for the tracks as you're building them into a list? By default, they appear in the order that you put them into a list. Then, you can sort by any of the shown headings "Title", Artist, BPM, Album, etc. BUT, once a sort order exists, there does not appear to be anyway to get back to the original default sort order. (PCDJ calls it "POS", iTunes doesn't call it anything, but it shows a simple 'position' number) I have looked through all of the fields available for display/sort/order, and nothing.
The only way to get back to the default sort order is to shut down VDJ and restart. It goes back to default sort order (which is technicall "no sort"), but then once you sort by something, you're stuck. Is there anyway to get the Browser window to return to the default, "no sort" order?
Secondly, there doesn't appear to be any way to re-order your default sort. I store all of my lists by my own "popular" tracks order . . ones i play most come to the top. Or if i'm building out special songs for a wedding, i like to put them in order of how they happen (Intros, First Dance, F/D Dance, M/S Dance, Cake Cutting, etc.) Some of my lists change often, especially in some of my speciality folders like "New & Hot Hip Hop"
Anything I'm missing or any ideas? (We can hack the XML file, but i surely don't want to do that to move a few songs around)

No. I'm using Virtual Folders (noted in my original post) I still can't find anyway to get around it. Once youre stuck in a sort order, it stays (even if you navigate to other folders/areas. When loading the contents of your Virtual Folder to the side Playlist window to start an automix set (like you would for a cocktail hour or dinner or whenever) It loads them in the order that is currently shown in your browser. So, a list designed and built in a specific order, when i try to load it to the playlist, it disregards that and loads them in the current sort order.
I'm not sure how I can use virtual folders for such setups. How do others use Virtual Folders for automix sets?

In doing other things, I downloaded the Registry Tool by djcel (found in the Download -> Plugins -> Tools & Drivers secion) and see two notable Registry entries that may relate to this issue:
SortOrderDefault = (set to 1)
SortOrderForce = (set to 0)
What do these mean? I could guess, I do not want to change any of these without knowing what they do or mean or what the options/variables are.

that is for colum sorting. if your set them both to 6 they will sort in bpm order from slowest to fastest slowest being on top. not sure on any other #'s but i think there listed in the wiki

Thanks djsynstr, you pointed me to the wiki which does have a complete listing of the Registry entries . . .very helpful.
http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/RegistryValues.html
I see how it's working. If you use a value of 2 through 19, you can control which data field it sorts on. And the options are: Title, Artist, Album, Genre, Bpm, Key, Length, Bitrate, Year, Comment, Play Count, First Seen, First Play, Last Play, Drive, Filepath, Filename, Filetype
Default of 0 is no sort, but a value of "1" doesn't make sense. The wiki says:
**************
A value of SortOrderDefault=1 sorts on the "smart" icon column which provides organization of the files typically found in past versions – common played songs at top, already played songs at the bottom, and everything else in-between.
**************
What is the "smart icon" column? I don't see any and nothing in user manual suggests it. Maybe left over from old versions?
Nonetheless, there has to be a way to get virtual folders to go back to the "position" order (again, in the order they're built (which equals the order of the XML file already) and the order that VDJ enters before a column sort is forced. ) None of these registry values appear to do that.

valid question... I've been using VDJ for a long time and have asked the same question about the default song list. It seems you have to restart the program to get it back to the original list order. Is there a way to get the original order back without restarting?

I'm a brand new user (just bought a week ago), so I cannot comment - I thought it was an oversight in this new release, but guess not. IMO, this is extremely basic and should be the standard approach. valid question... I've been using VDJ for a long time and have asked the same question about the default song list. Anyone else have experience with this . . . I'm trying to build confidence so I can actually perform a gig with VDJ. So far, i can't. This is one of the reasons.
And "displaying" the default sort order is only 1/2 of the problem. Having the ability to edit the order is just as important, if not more, IMO.
Anyone from Atomix care to comment?

A quick workaround would be to use the comment field and number sequentially, then sort by comment field order.
