I like to use VDJ to do all of my recorded mixes even over my RANE Serato SL3 which has a built in record feature which is pretty awesome for recording when using Serato. The one thing I don't like about recording with Serato is that the files are in AIFF format. When I play back those files in VDJ it just sounds like static, so I have to convert them to FLAC or MP3.
I prefer to use VDJ because of it's superior features. It allows me to get my beatmatch dead on in a hurry so that I can concentrate on my mixing of samples, effects and my third deck, but I don't record using the VDJ record feature. VDJ won't record the effects of my DJM-800, EFX and third deck. Also you can't crossfade with the mixer unless you MIDI-map it. Besides that it's not good to use the same computer you are running you DJ program with to record also, too problematic though I know others do it.
What I do is connect a Yamaha Pocketrak 2G professional digital recorder to the REC out on my Pioneer DJM-800 mixer. This little digital recorder records in multiple formats but I always choose .wav because you can always go down from there (you can't improve up). My mixes always go off great without a hitch with this method. I also bring it to karaoke gigs, record my clients singing then charge $10 for a CD of themselves singing. Great for generating extra $$!!
How about y'all? How do you record your mixes?

I'm using 60GB Cowon A3 player/recorder. It records in wma and flac format. It also can serve as a backup player or backup hard drive. Plays videos and has a video out as well.

I just released a mix of a recent gig at a college party using the set up mention above, here it is...

This was not my best work but I had a hell of a good time doing it, pretty crazy people at this gig.

I'm using an Edirol FA-66 sound card and a MacBook. FA-66 has two output channels which are connected to my Ecler Nuo2 mixer.
For recording I have a cable plugged from the mixers' REC-OUT to the FA-66's input channel. I'm running a separate software (Sound Studio) along side Virtual DJ for recording. Worked fine so far.
Since there is quite a lot of digital <---> analogue conversion going on in the chain, I usually do some mastering for the recorded set so it sounds as good as possible before compressing it into MP3 and releasing it.

I was going to do some mastering to mine because it was live in the middle of a busy hall and people were interrupting me the whole time. There are a few errors and other things (like a guest at the event moving the tempo slider during the mix while asking me a question) but I left it in it's pristine and raw state. It's not bad. My next one I'll do differently and possibly some mastering an remixing using Ableton Suite 8, Cubase Studio 5, ProTools 8 or Cakewalk Sonar 8. Which one do you all use?

I have XLR cables running from my mixer (C3USB) to my amp and speakers. so I just hook an RCA audio to 3.5mm jack cable to my mic input on my laptop from my RCA master out on my mixer, set VDJ to record from line in, and there you go. anything that comes through the speakers goes into the laptop allowing me to use my crossfader and not have any issues with the recording.

well i havent recorded much but just a couple days ago i gave it a try with the vdj recorder, i recorded 1 cd with the track splitter on which i did not like...and another with no auto track....which i liked how it recorded....the auto split seems not to work very well because its supposed to split with the slider every time you cross the middle but it seems to slpit before...so i ended up with allot of 3-30 second tracks....plus media player sucks at playing this seemlesslly, it has like a small skip between tracks....so i rather record untracked then track it manually with cool edit so when i burn the cd i just put 0 gap time between tracks and sounds like one whole track on a car stereo though you can still skip from one song to another.

I use the same Laptop which is also running Virtual Dj to record my mixes. I don´t have any issues with that.
I record straight away from the booth out of my Mixer into the line-in of my laptop. I use Goldwave for recording.

If you want to do some mastering to your tracks, you are going to need the T-Racks24 Stand Alone aplication... im using that to master all my remixes....
If you want to edit a couple things what you are going to need is Soundforge...

I have Sony Sound Forge and Adobe Audition as well as others. I haven't tried using any of them yet

I use the same software for mastering as I use for recording: Sound Studio
It's quite similar to Sound Forge and other DAW-software. Reasonable priced and has all the features I need - without feature bloat that I don't need.
My standard recording & method of mastering is usually this:
1) Record the mix with reasonably low gain levels, thus leaving head room for post-production.
2) Applying some parametric EQ to bring out more certain frequencies, thus adding some extra clarity to the sound.
3) Applying pitch smoothing and peak limiter to soften the peaks in the signal
4) Applying reverb to give the sound some body and the sensation of space. This also gives some counter-balance for dynamics compression and compression to MP3 on lower bit rates.
5) Finally apply some dynamics compression to decrease the difference between highest and lowest decibels, thus making the sound wall more balanced. After that adding some loudness might be in order.
6) Compress to MP3 and release.
