Topic: sound blaster X-Fi 5.1

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is anyone using this external sound card? I have to upgrade but don't want to break the bank. Just invested in the QSC K12/Ksub set up and want to give it good sound to work with.

Using Toshiba Satellite and Vista Home Premium.

I'm open to any sound card suggestions and tips.

Thanks,
Jay

Hi,

I'm using the X-Fi Expresscard in my HP-DV9500 and I am very pleased. I configure it with just a hint of echo that fattens up my overall sound.

I'm not all that happy with the Expresscard physical slot because it feels weak, but I haven't had a problem for over a year now.

I use the internal sound card for my cueing. I run the output from the laptop's headphone jack into a Samson headphone x 4 amplifier. It has plenty of gain and sounds good in my Allen Heath Headphones.

The X-Fi Express card of course is my main out to the system. The idea is that a bus connected soundcard would way outperform a USB attached device. So far so good.

Jim

we've had the same X-fi sound card in the computer at the club since we bought it and it does put out some awesome sound. but we don't run it straight out to the sound system, first it goes through an audio processor that is tuned for the particular acoustics in the building.

Hi,
Usiing the X-Fi Express card here too for over a year now. Very happy with the sound, but have to agree that the "dongle" connection feels week, but so far so good.

I don't use Express card... the 5.1 Soundsuround version isn't available in Creative anymore. Only USB and PCI and PCI Express versions.

I use in my laptop a X-Fi 5.1 USB soundcard, good for the money. Also use a X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro (PCI) and is very good too. I found any of those sound cards a great deal.

There are out there some other great HiFi soundcard, but almost all are from $199 and above.

Good luck!

I don't have the express card. Mine is the external card and have been using it the last eight months with no problems.

Thanks for the input. I've decided to try the X-fi 5.1. Best for my budget right now.

MaxDj, If you planning on getting the X-Fi 5.1 for notebook, you'll also have to get a dongle to split the music into channel 1 and 2. At least that's how mine is, it's been a couple of years, but don't think it's changed.
