Topic: Stumped... How do I preview audio and video while other video is playing?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey colleagues,
I'm almost embarrassed to be asking this question because I am sure there is an easy answer that I have probably just overlooked but I am stumped.

How do I preview a video and cue up the audio on deck 2 when I am playing a video on deck 1?

I am using the Denon DNHC4500 controller (with its built-in sound card) and running 2 different channels to my Rane MP44 mixer.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Use a skin with video preview for each deck.

From the soundcard connect two stereo outs to the rane mixer, at 2 separate channels at the mixer, and prelisten at the rane mixer..

In VDJ, set sound output to external mixer.

Does the soundcard (built into the controller) have two stereo outs? you need that :)

As the HC4500 only has 2 channels, you would need to monitor through your mixer. Some 3 channels sound cards also have a headphone socket for monitoring on one of them, but the HC4500 does not support this.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Yes, I am using a skin with video preview for each deck.
Yes, the soundcard built into the controller does have 2 stereo outs.
Yes, I have set the sound output to external mixer in VDJ.

The skin I am using shows the "video crossfader" at the top of the screen. If I am playing a video on deck 1 and have the video crossfader all the way to the left, I load the next video on deck 2 and I can SEE it, but cannot HEAR the audio on that channel on my mixer until I bring the video crossfader back to the middle (which obviously then shows the video on deck 2).

Any idea how I can HEAR the audio associated with the video on deck 2 without SHOWING the video on the master output?
Thanks.
