Topic: Cannot play a song, It says "songname - Error"

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have been playing plenty of songs on this program, but have run into several songs that cannot be played. I play them on my itunes, but when it comes to playing them on the Virtual DJ, it just doesnt seem to work. For example, it will say:
"I'm A Flirt (Mysto & Pizzi Remix).mp3 - Error"

ps - I run on Windows, not Mac, if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Hi Franco

I have had the same thing happen with tracks downloaded from MSN Music. If i downloaded them on my desktop and copied them onto my laptop I was getting this error when trying to play the tracks on the laptop. It turned out to be an issue with the licencing and was easily sorted by making shure I was connected to the internet, running VDJ and then selecting the tracks I wanted to play. The licence re-download was automatic. The tracks may take longer to load the first time but after that it was all ok.

could well be a licence issue with your tracks as well.

good luck

This can also be due to the location of the song as you may of moved the song to a different folder after you located it the first time.

If you select the folder the song is in within VDJ it will add the song to the libary.

Also do the following to keep your libary in top shape

Config
Browser
Click on Check which will check your libary
Click on Clean which will clean your libary of songs that are no longer available
Click on Fix which will optimise the database

As mentioned before if the song is in the right folder and still won't play then this will be a lienceing issue with that song.

Hey thanks guys for the reply, I think it might have something to do with the liscences of the songs, because I've tried every other method. Would you guys happen to know how I can go about fixing this liscence issue?

depends on where you got the song from?

The song has moved.

Windows media player is the culprit on mine, when i connect to the internet it searches for track info and often renames the track something completly random and it takes me ages to find it again.

Bill Gates has a lot to answer for

Whenever I do a search, many songs come up in pairs. One of the pairs gives me an error, the other plays fine. Come to find out there is only one version of the song, and in exploring I see only one, and in the folders in VDJ there is only one, but the search brings up two, one being "dead"

Is this a licensing deal too? What can I do just shy of removing the dead one from the search DB (most of my songs do this!)

Thanks

Franco23,

You may have gotten to the bottom if this, but one thing I noticed was there was an ampersan symbol (&) in the title of the song you mentioned above. I had probs with that with earlier versions and just automatically take out the & symbol and use the word "and".

The songs with the symbols would show up as an error when the symbol was there...Just a thought!

Do you have two drives working together with the same songs in each or using the same virtual folders. One virtual folder will show up but will show two of each song from each separate database. this happens to me a lot too. Every time it does happen, I end up LOSING database data from one or bothe databases as well, and sometimes lose complete virtual folders.

I had problems playing several songs as well. I just built the computer and realized I did not have Quicktime loaded on my computer. Consequently, Apple songs would not play. After loading Quicktime, the songs played.

Hope it helps,

Hi...

Moved all my tracks onto a 1TB hard drive today and organised a file managment system.

Naturally, I get the songname/error message when clicking on one of them as the new location does not correspond to that held by the database.

I can of course drag indivdual tracks in from Windows Explorer onto the turntable each time I play them but this is a bit risky when I am on the radio!

Does anybody know how to get VDJ to rescan my hard drive, thereby replacing the old with the new on the database?

I have VDJ LE with Hercules RMX

what version of VDJ are you using?

This has happened to me to, and I use Itunes.

When I went into itunes to play the song, there was an exclamation mark next to it, and it said it couldn't locate the file. This means if you downloaded it off a website, and clicked open with (your music program), then the file was only saved in your downloads, and tampering with your download list deletes it. You will have to download the file again, and if it is off a website, click save file, and move it into a folder.

Hope this helps.

Right click on the file/folder/hard drive you want to access music from. and simply click \'Add to Search DB\'. this will refresh any new files and make them available and ready for use.
