I am looking to get a new powered sub to use with my Mackie srm 450s. I am looking at the Mackies Subs, but are a bit heavy for my mobile rig. The JBL eon 500 is only 65lbs. I just wanted to know if anyone has used or heard one of these yet. I already have bigger subs but don't want to lug them to some of my mobile shows.
Any info would be great. Thanks

With my SRM 450s I use a Peavy 115p Impulse powered sub. http://www.sixstardj.com/peim11posu.html I have had a lot of compliments an my over all sound. Side note, I also have seen dust and plaster falling from the ceilings of some venue when I really push my system. I would recommend this sub to anyone in the market.....

Its 1000 watts, at 8 ohms. More than enough power for most applications. Also, it has a built in crossover, and onboard connections if you want to run some non-active speakers with it. I have been using mine for over 5 years and it is one bad mamma jamma....

It is one heavy piece of kit @ 120lbs. I do love mine though, it has built in casters.....

Yeah, I heard them in Guitar Center and they sounded SWEEEEEEEEET...I was scared to ask the price. I use a pair of the JBL Eon 15" G2 and a pair of the matching subs (they do a good job in a medium sized room and the size and weight were right).

Cool Thanks. I found them for 899. I also been looking at the qsc about 1329 a piece but i heard one last night and its been prob the best sub ive heard. its a bit on the heavy side but i might have to sacrifice and go with that one

Yes, they sound sweet in tiny Guitar Center demonstration room but I used 2 JBL subs with 2 EONs G2 for a party with 300 people and I have to say that I really pushed them to the limit and it still was not enough. Volume on subs was all the way up and volume on EONs was at 12 o'clock. Heavier subs sound better, unfortunately, but there must be a reason for that. I think you should buy QSC instead.

This is always the challenge; You don't want to "lug around" big speakers but you want a big sound.
This is like me wanting an SUV with all the room, comfort, and safety but it needs to get at least 50 miles per gallon and will cost me less than two grand. (Dream on)
Reality Check: If the big rock bands could put on a show without needing 16 tractor trailer loads of equipment they could save a LOT of money. and perhaps REDUCE the cost of the tickets.
So what you have to do is decide how "big" your sound needs to be based on your venues. For me a 15" sub would not be adequate no matter what brand.
I use the JBL MRX528S Dual 18" Subwoofers.... they are 121 lbs. (each) and they are not powered. I use the QSC RMX 5050 to power my subs, it weighs 75 pounds. It also requires 20-amp outlet, has a plug like a room air-conditioner, I had to have a special AC cord made becase some clubs don't have 20-amp outlets)
I can't move any of this stuff by myself and require an "assistant" whom I must pay. This is an added cost but when I need BASS I expect BASS. (I'm a bitch in that respect, very demanding)

Exactly, there's no such thing as having too much equipment, this is why we have knobs on the amps and mixers. Turning down is simple. Not having ENOUGH equipment can lead to embarrassment and losing that job to another DJ who went that extra mile and lugged the BIG speakers.
So suck it up, exercise is a good thing! :-)

It's a good sub for a house party. Anything larger and you and your crowd will be disappointed.

If you are talking the EOn G2 subs I will agree with you they are not made for large rooms, more for dance floor areas of about 100-200 people. If you are talking about the 500's I can't say as I have not heard them at a gig yet

I was using 2 JBL EON15 G2 Powered Cabinets and 2 JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofers.
