Topic: Home remidies for defective GAIN nob powered speaker....

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Short and sweet.

WAS NOT DROPPED or there was no user damage to cause this so its got to be a defective piece.

Speaker works fine but the GAIN is screwed up if i push the nob to the right left ect just a TAD the speaker will SPAZ VERY LOUD and cause deaf piercing noise and raise the volume on the speaker probably full way cause people and myself to duck for cover. Is there a quick fix for this? I have a gig tomorrow so the repair shop has to be delayed right now its running fine as we speak as long as i don't touch the gain but other times the bass will nudge it just enough to go crazy and i don't wanna take that chance in it going KABOOM at the gig.

ADVICE & what's the issue would be helpful.

Thanks

Sounds like a dirty pod. Little electronics cleaner might help - use is on my sound board faders when I get similar issues. And on my effects processor knobs for controlling IN and OUT gain. However, if the pod is shot - then it does need replacing.

I second what Chris recommended.....

Well being worn is questionable.....I've had them for a year but this 1 was a backup. I probably used it 2-3 times in a year. How would you recommend cleaning the nob? and can this be done from the outside of the speaker? or do i gotta rip it open?

Thanks

Fast and dirty (no pun intended) test....very fast with no power connected turn the gain all the way up then down real fast, and several times. Then plug it in, if the noise is gone it is just dirty. (This is only a temporary correction. The noise will be back quickly) I cannot tell you if you can clean it from the outside without looking at it.

I agree with everything except they are called "Pots".... not Pods.

My father was a big time "electronics" guy and some of it rubbed off)
I know he wished I had been a boy)

Chris my love,

I'm funnier that you are 100% of the time.

I'm smarter than you 1% of the time, so I take a shot when I can.

I have a terrible time with my QSC Amps (Pots) getting dirty and I use the same product you recommend.

Remove the knob and spray it as close to the pot as possible. I go through this ritual every 2-3 months.

on directions from my lawyer i have been told not to make any written remarks on renees last sentence, however my thoughts are my own.

Tayla.... if you need assistance "remaining silent" I can sell you a BALL GAG from my "personal website" that will be much cheaper than a lawyer.
