Topic: Some advice, fog/smoke machines damage your health - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Did my Club gig last night, they got a new fog/smoke machine in the week and the sound guy got a bit carried away with the damn thing.

Woke up this morning and my throat was killing me. I had a chat with Tayla on the phone this morning and I was struggling to speak to him and I haven't been able to speak good all day.

I'm off out in a minute to do a local gig for a lads birthday, I tell you what there won't be alot of mic work tonight. Maybe a few pints will help though, lol

Bloody Smoke machines, damn things.

Are you sure this was not a bong related injury?

~R~

renne he was calling from the rugby club and i told him not to speak with his mouth full, but....

oops, by the way how was the holidays renee and where are those mmmmmmm' photographs

What i recommend to anybody: hazer! :)

My "Holiday" as you blokes call it was like this:

Puerto Rico: Excellent!

St. Thomas: Superb.

St. John: Absolutely gorgeous

Grand Turk: The prettiest water I've ever seen. (The British own this beauty)

Dominican Republic: 4 out of 5 wasn't bad, this place was damn scary.

Gotta work tonight, I'll throw some vacation photos on tomorrow, I guess you want the topless deck photos?

LMAO

yeah and not just the deck.... lol

Soundlab smoke fluid I always used to get complaints about due to the smell, the Jem stuff is oder-less

One other thing if your mic wasn't loud enough and you had to shout into it then this could of caused it, I can feel me voice going under these circumstances.

That's the strange thing I wasn't the on the mic at the club, It's very rare I use one. It's not sort of place. The fog just did something to my throat.

I don't know what they were using mate, I'll ask them on Friday and see if they could try that.

LOL - they probably use the smoke fluid to irritate the punters throats - that way they buy more booze!!

The fact is ALL smoke machines which includes hazers contain mineral oil, glycol or glycerin-based fluid which have been associated with adverse effects on respiratory health. (Especially folks with asthma)

Only dry ice smoke machines are totally safe but they must be used in well ventilated areas because of the potential displacement of oxygen by the carbon dioxide gas could lead to asphyxiation. (I was the nerdy chick in science class you all ignored)

Ok, JIMMYB & Tayla got the cruise photos VIA private message, please don't share them with TEARY I plan on hooking him up through PAYPAL. --> $

PS: If you read this post and don't know the meaning of asphyxiation please stay clear of all dry cleaning bags, they could kill you. XXX

Why would you need my Paypal Renee'? You already have my credit card info, check your 900 number history......

hehe, still stuck at that level T, i'm up to direct debit.... lol

whats are some of the hazers u guys are using??

are they practical for mobile applications??

in the UK legislation governing the use of these machines is virtually non existent so be best if one of the guys in the US mention how you stand there, other than to watch for the obvious ie fire detection systems etc...

Some older machines still use oil based (some use a cosmetic oil similar to baby oil) fluids and are not realy any good for prolonged use in an enclosed environment. Old Geni and Gem machines used to use this stuff and its not nice. It produces great smoke but leaves an oily residue on everything it comes into contact with.
Most fluid sold in the UK is now water/alcohol based but any UK supplier must be able to provide COSH (Control Of Hazardous Substances) sheets which will tell you whats in the fluid as well as any known hazerdous effects in use.
If you can find out who manufactures the fluid and they have a UK distibutor, contact them and ask for a COSH sheet.
