I'm looking for the best way to keep a playlist that doesn't remove your track once played like the Playlist option does? Is such an option?

The track is not removed from the playlist once played.
Tracks are only removed from the playlist if you drag them off the list OR select the remove played option from the Playlist menu.

Well, is there any way to get it to a deck without dragging it off the playlisy? Ideally I'd like to freely add it to the deck without having it disappear from the Playlist.

That isn't what you originally asked and yes that is not the purpose of the Playlist ... you are correct that is the purpose of the Sidelist.
There is keyboard shortcut that you can use to 'swap' the sidelist to the Playlist so you can use the Save features of the playlist.
The keyboard action is called -- switch_sidelist_playlist
Action definition -- Put the content of the sidelist in the playlist, and the content of the playlist in the sidelist

Ok, I found and added the shortcut to my Shortcut list, but how do I do the switch? It just says to hit [A] as the shortcut.

you can just save the playlist...
rename, save and youll find it on the sidelist

I saved the Playlist, but I'm not sure where it saved and I don't see how I can load it into the Sidelist. Thanks for all your help, by the way.

The Playlist is saved by default to the /My Documents/VirtualDJ/Playlist/ folder .... from the left navigation panel open the Playlist tree, select the saved Playlist .... and then Ctrl+A to highlight everything then drag-n-drop to the sidelist.
The fact that you asked that question concerns me because if you are going to load it to the sidelist ... what are you using the sidelist for ... why are you not using the Playlist?

Where saved if I'm on a Mac?

Same place ... /Documents/VirtualDJ/Playlist/ ...

Ok, I found where the playlist.m3u is saved, but I can't seem to load it in my version of VirtualDJ. I'll click on the + in the playlist and it gives me only these options: start automix/automix type/repeat/clear/shuffle/remove played/remove duplicates/save
So, I tried to add the .m3u into the playlist by finding it in the folder tree on the far left. But VDJ won't load that file type apparently.
Is there anything else I can do?

Version 5.2 for Mac is the latest version.

No 5.2.1 is the latest, and the version you are using is using a shared warez serial.

So, the feature I'm looking for is only available in 5.2.1 then?

Found a fix: Just drop the .m3u directly into the Sidelist.
