When I press CUE on my CD player the song does not return back to the cue point

Q. When I press CUE on my CD player the song does not return back to the cue point

This is a limitation of using timecode.

When using timecode, all VirtualDJ knows is whether the song is currently playing or not, how fast, which direction and the actual position on the disc (Smart or absolute mode only.)

The song position is encoded in the timecode signal (Hence its name), so the software only knows the actual song position while the disc is playing and it is receiving the timecode signal.

If you press CUE, then the song playback and timecode signal stops. All VirtualDJ knows at this point is the song has stopped playing. It does not know that the position has jumped back to the CUE point on the CD player because it has not received a timecode from the disc to tell it this.

When you start playing the song again, it will jump to the new position.

To avoid this problem, after pressing CUE, tap it again to momentarily play a short clip of audio at the cue point. This should be enough for the software to receive the new timecode and update the song position.

MIDI controllers do not have from this limitation because the software knows exactly which button that you pressed and can act appropriately.
