DJ Spangled has always been interested in DJing - in my early teens as a young Spangled-ette I used a piece of paper over the play/record head of the cassette player in the family music centre to create primitive mixes. At parties I was always the one put in charge of music.

Serious DJing started about 1998. I built a PC with 2 soundcards and played around with all the software packages available. I settled on VirtualDJ in 2005ish and never regretted it for a moment. My first serious bits of kit were a Gemini MP3000x cd player and a Gemini PS-676i mixer and with the computer a Hercules DJ Console Mk2 - when I wore out the buttons I bought a Behringer BCD3000, which is my current favourite, thanks to Alien Implant’s Mapper.

From London, UK’s Royal Vauxhall Tavern to Manchester UK’s New York, New York and Sitges, Spain’s B-Side” bars, Spangled mixes are out there. I’ve played private parties in bars (Hi Charity!), weddings and even had a regular gig playing sets in a gym (it has a boxing ring so I always had the intro to “Eye of the Tiger” available at the push of a button for whenever anyone stepped into the ring:-).

In addition to Virtual DJ, the Spangled Studio contains Adobe Audition (I started out on CoolEdit Pro), Propellerhead Reason, Cubase Studio, Ableton Live and loads of other toys like an Evolution MK249c keyboard and a Samson C03 Condenser Mic, essential for those Spangled productions.
Spangled productions so far have been Edits (early ones cheekily called Mixes – before I knew the difference between Edits and Mixes) but I’m moving in a true Mix direction and looking for people of a similar musical outlook to work with.

Mixes/Edits/Mash-ups I’ve taken a musical axe to include: -
• Infernal - From Paris to Berlin (DJ Spangled Busy Dance Edit)
• Alena vs Olive - Turn it Around Outlaw (Spangled Mix)
• Ace of Base ft. The Streets - Dry Yer Eyes coz C'est la Vie (Spangled Samples Edit)
• Huff & Puff - Help Me Make It (Club Land) (Spangled Edit)
• Riding on Spangled Wings (Spangled Edit)
• Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes (Almighty 2001 Remix) (Spangled Edit)
• Jocelyn Brown feat Motiv8 - Riding on the Wings of an Angel (Wayne G Heaven Anthem Mix) (Spangled 2007 Edit)
• Celine Dion – I Drove All Night (Spangled Strum Mix)
• Soniq - Feel the Fire (Spangled Edit)
• Madonna - Music (Hex Hector) (Spangled Epoque Edit)
• Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance Step by Step (Spangled Mashup)
And many more …!

Genre’s can be confining when producing music so I use the term with caution but my favourite genres would fall into the happy, uplifting vocal house & dance categories – with a special note that I like all flavors of music – if it’s well produced. It’s no surprise then that my DJ sets are centered on this but with loads of other stuff thrown in, so they often fall into the category of “anything goes”.
