Hi fans, it's been a very long time since my last touch here! But here is some fresh news about DJ FYB...
It is with great pleasure I decided to participate to the Depeche Mode's remixing contest for the track PEACE. This is organized in collaboration with BeatPort, Mute Records, Native Instruments and JazzMutant.
The first step was to buy the sources at $4.99 USD from BeatPort.com to get the WAVs. It appears, shared also by a lot of participants who expressed this at the beginning, that the quality of the WAVs was not so good - at least, not what we expected in terms of quality. But this is why we spent so many money in our equipements so we can than adjust the quality from poor to high - with a bit of tricks.
My first feeling was to focus on the voices. I also planned to have a 126 bpm in a ****of house. So I started to cut and rearrange the voices to fit in the ****I wanted. Than I put some drums and a lot of toms to get a bit of tribal.
I decided to use FruityLoops 8 and Reason 4 to do this. Than comes the point where I was almost satisfy but always think about a little change here and a little change there! So the date of delivery had cut my "perfectionnist" side and I submitted as it was.
I will not say that my remix is the best one. Indeed, I listened some incredible remix from the other participants and I know that my chances are limited. But, at least I did not heard a lot of them that have so much vocal on it, and the experience was absolutely fantastic for me. It is not everyday that I am able to manipulate music from a notorious group like DM. Just this is enough for me to justify the many hours I put on this project.
Depeche Mode is not so easy to remix as they are a bit offbeat when singing and their tempo is not - a priori - the tempo of house. I had to readjust some time where the word will appear in terms of note. A delicate work I should say!
So if you want to support my work - I invite all of you to vote today on BeatPortal.com at:

I also built a video of a simple "montage" Depeche Mode's photos I just picked from Google Photos. You can watch/listen this video at:

This method to advertise our mixes seems to be very popular as several DJs for the contest had did the same. I knew somewhere that YouTube was a possibility but I never did the jump to the idea before. Something I start to think now for my own materials as well.
P.S.: I want to take advantage of this blog entry to wish all participants good luck. There is a lot of talent and the imagination of all is incredible - considering we all started with the same source files!
