There are basic things that you need to start you of being a DJ. But to start DJ’ing then there are number of factors that you have to consider and some of these are whether you have got the time and patience as other DJ's take years after being recognize like the real pro-dj's. Another if you have got the money to support as, the more you develop your skills the more you demand to upgrade your gears. As you can see there is a lot of hard work that goes into DJ’ing but the main things are to have the skills and talents it doesn't matter what resources and equipment you have.

In most cases most disc jockeys came into the trade as an outgrowth of their love for music, or for dancing, good DJ's are basically musicians who composed and make music not because they are sound engineers or sound tech. It is a fun game to play, trying to guess what peoples are into it. Let's keep on spinning mates....

How Can I Use My Serato Playlist In Virtual DJ

Tue 24 Jan 12 @ 1:37 am

How could i save my serato playlist and import it into Virtual DJ? This is probably the most common question of those DJ's wanting to use their serato played tracks to be able to use it in virtual DJ or you would ask "HOW CAN I USE MY SERATO PLAYLIST IN VIRTUAL DJ?" Yes it is possible, But before going further let me first explain the difference of the two softwares when it comes to capabilities and feature in managing your playlist. As a Virtual DJ user i have always looking to a point that cross software function is worthy especially establishing and creating playlist that tooks you months or years and want to use it on the softwares but you can't is frustrating because of its limitation in supporting other software and also maybe because the competition is very close and tights. I have found out that current versions of serato in which you can't save playlist without playing, it must be played first and locate it in the history folder of serato, and from there you can have the option to export the history files as playlist and share it to any format you like, but it is also limited to what serato have supported to share their files. The other way of saving playlist without playing it, by creating a crates, as it is virtually save in serato crates database without moving the original files from their original location it is exactly the same as "virtual folder" in Virtual DJ and this is where VDJ is much more easier and convenient in managing your playlist. Now these are the few steps in saving your serato playlist as "m3u" files and export it into Virtual DJ as playlist.

First open you seratoLIVE/ITCH and go to history tab, from your history window you will see all your session recorded everytime you use and play serato, you can view the tracks inside in that played history session by just simlpy click that play-like rigth arrow and the drop down list will show the file contains inside that history session, your screen should look like this.

After selecting the specific history session that you want to save, choose the file format of your playlist to be exported to Virtual DJ as m3u files extension this is the files that could be read by Virtual DJ, the selection could be as serato playlist, text, csv and m3u. The m3u is the most common format used in almost all of the mp3 players in the market right now and this is also supported by Virtual DJ so in this case we will use the m3u extension.

You must remember that history session in serato and Virtual DJ are save by dates, then to export the selected session on serato playlist, select/click the "EXPORT" located just beside the m3u tab to the left. See the screen shot below.

This screen shots shows on music folder paths and exports command is selected to export the files. If you have configure your Virtual DJ to be able to read serato crates this is the correct path: For MAC user go to: USERS / YOUR COMP NAME? / MUSIC / SCRATCHLIVE / HISTORY EXPORT and for PC users go to: USERS / YOUR COMP NAME? / LIBRARIES / MUSIC / SCRATCHLIVE / HISTORY EXPORT. For those who haven't configure their Virtual DJ to read serato crates you can do that by reading the step by step tutorial in my blogs on "How to import and read serato crates in Virtual DJ".

This is the screen shots of the seratoscratchLIVE folder:

This is the serato history export folder, this is the location of the exported serato history session that we talked about. Files that is shown here could be in text, csv and m3u file extension we will use the m3u. Now select the files you want to use in Virtual DJ playlist by copying them to the Virtual DJ playlist folder. For MAC user go to: USERS / YOUR COMP NAME? / MY DOCUMENTS / VIRTUALDJ / PLAYLIST For PC user go to: USERS / YOUR COMP NAME? / MY DOCUMENTS / VIRTUALDJ / PLAYLIST.

This is the Virtual DJ Playlist Folder. So your file must be copied into this folder and it is ready to be use Virtual DJ.

Open your Virtual DJ and go to the browser window area locate the playlist and there you will see the imported playlist from serato. Screen shots will be like below.

NOTE: About using Virtual DJ playlist in serato or exporting Virtual DJ Playlist to serato is also possible and simple, just see on my blog and read through the steps. Thank you.
