 | Dazmax (Experienced pro user) wrote on Sun 01 Nov 09 @ 8:28 am I mentioned safety before and it is the one thing to keep in your mind all the time when working with bands,Mainly because THEy DON'T. At the most basic level you are hooking your kit to their's and will not be in control of how well maintained their kit is. My personal pet hate is guitarists with valve amps who think that instead of getting a pro engineer to find out why their amp is buzzing, will just unhook the earth wire. It is leathal and one of the most frequent causes of on stage accidents. I have been called up as an expert witness on several fatal accident enquirys in the UK and found exactly how nasty this can be. If there was a fault with the amp the guitarist can stand and play with no ill effects until he/she comes into contact with a mic or some other bit of kit which is grounded and then its severe burns or goodnight sweetheart!!!. As a tip, whenever a band has set up their kit and you are redy to get hooked up, always use a digital meter to check for floating voltages beween amps mics and all other stage equipment before you get your gear hooked up to their's. Obviously use the meter with care so as to avoid placing yourself in danger. Sorry to lay the heavy stuff on ya but it's to protect you, your gear and anyone your working with. No trips to the shower with a 100w Marshal stack.LOL
Will just keep poping stuff on as I think of it. but any questions, feel free to ask.

 | Dazmax (Experienced pro user) wrote on Sun 01 Nov 09 @ 8:09 am Hi Rude. Not used that desk the digital desk I have is a Tascam and is ,I guess a little older. For gigs with bands or venues that I have not worked with before I like the analog desk because I can make instant changes without scrolling throu memory settings and stuff like that. I Use the digital desk when i have worked a venue several times or become a regular visitor and can take lots of setup time with EQing and so on then store the settings to make the next visit a quicker setup. Some things to put on your Xmas list would be : 50mtr stage multicore with min of 16 ins and 4 outs, set of mics for generel use, (I find the good old Shure SM58 for vocals and SM57 for most instruments work great), Set of drum mics with at least two condenser types for overhead cymbal pickup, a good selection of balanced mic leads, A selection of Direct inject boxes ( to input signals from stage amps if you are not micing them and for the direct connection of instruments ith built in pre amps), set of good solid mic stands, 4 wedge monitors powered or monitors and power amps (enough to provide four individual monitor mixes) and aselection of mains power extention leads (bands always forget to bring them and in any case you want to make shure the are safe, if you can avoid it dont let them use their own). Just a short list to be going on with... LOL. |

 | Dazmax (Experienced pro user) wrote on Sat 31 Oct 09 @ 1:00 pm Hey Rude. The board in the pic is my "compact" (yeh I know) 32 chan Yamaha MG/3224FX. It is very compact for a 32chan desk and has 2 built in effects units, which work very well. If you can give me some idea of what size of bands you want to cater for I will do my best to help.

 | 7citiesVDJays (Limited edition user) wrote on Wed 28 Oct 09 @ 4:40 am jolofboy, First you need to make sure you have a dual output video card. Go to your desktop right hand click, brings up pop-up menu go to properties / settings and set up your second monitor. Then you should be able to open up VDJ and see your other monitor. Dont forget to plug up your monitor before you power up. |

 | jolofboy (Professional edition user) wrote on Tue 27 Oct 09 @ 2:47 pm dj Rude, Could you answer my question regarding regarding the video output without dragging the frame to another monitor... I'd like it to stream straight out of the monitor or flatscrreen tv. I need to find out the setup necessary to be able to do just that. The config Video drop down menu only has the window on choice without any vid card option. |
