Topic: CDJ 400 - How is it???

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Since vdj made the CDJ 400 native has there been any issues with it?
Does it work great????

Wanting to set up a new rig that consists of laptop 2 CDJ 400 U46dJ sound card and a midi mixer

currently i use timecode using 2 CD Axis 9 players and shuttle XP all fitted in a case (i play videos)
timecode play has treated me good so far... only a few issues now and then

always wanted to cut the timecode out of my setup so that i get the response and sound quality i did when i used the dac3 (on my first setup)
now dat pioneer has made CDJ 400 midi i wanted to know if it works well for owners with vdj. etc

cost of the CDJs compared to a Numark Axis is very different.. just need to know cause... i am not in a country that stocks them.. and there is not test return policy.. so ur responses would be greatly appreciated

Until recently I owned a CDJ-400. As a CD player it is very good. As a controller it lacked, in my opinion, compared to the iCDX (which I own two of) for example. I am sure there are those who would argue that point, but to each his own.

Like what? I use two of them side by side, look at me blog for a picture, and love them A lot of control is available through the decks them selves. In tandem with my DXM01usb mixer it is a very nice set up indeed.

Are the jogwheels midi for either deck or is tccd necessary?

Yes, the jogs are midi, and just like in CD mode, push down on the center for scratching, or faster movements. The outside of the jogs can be used as a nudge feature, or there are nudge buttons for more precise beatmatching.

No, you can use them two at a time, in tandem.

Yes two 400's can be used at once with vdj.

I have used them both also and the ICDX has more native controllers over the VDJ feature like, samples, cuepoints, loops, effects,
where the 400 is limited. the 400 does have a scratch pad that is a little more sensitive but it's not close to a cdj 1000 so ummm
I think pioneer needs to go back and come again on this one.

Denon may have something in the 5500 but I don't think it's nativily support yet.
