I have read several posts regarding different controllers for the VirtualDj/Numark Cue software but no clear verdict which works the best. I understand it all depends on what works for whom. My question is between the total control, Hercules MK2 and RMX which would be a good controller to have. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You're right, it depends on you & what your needs are. Total Control is a controller only which I've never tried, the MK2 and RMX are controller, soundcard and mixer combos, also the Vestax vci 100 is a controller only but if I'm not mistaken offers touch sensative jog wheels. I used to have the MK2 and now use the RMX, and both are pretty good for my needs as a mobile guy. There is just a couple bugs I've witnessed on the RMX (mainly just the quick scroll bug), but nothing that I'd call a gig ender;^]

Those small controllers are for bedroom djs and the controllers like the DMC2 or the Hc4500 are for Mobile , bar equipment...

I use my Total Control at wedding for guests up to 500 people Caliente. Its a small controller, so there goes your theory ;-)

The MK2 is a light, very portable all-in-one. However, the build quality is rather inferior. I'm now on my second one (warranty replacement for a defective unit - cards were loose inside), and this one now has issues also (this time with a bad pot in the headphone volume control) after a few months in service. It's sort of a shame because I have grown rather accustomed to this little box.

Hercules tech support has clammed up since I sent the requested test results to them, but I'll wait and see what they do next. They're probably busy with RMX tech requests now that it's out. My faith in them is quickly beginning to sour because the MK2, albeit economical, is just not solid and reliable enough for the road IMHO.

The Herc. DJ console series is perfect in my humble for mobile gigs, if you want to strip to bare essentials you don't need much else, just your computer and sound system. I won't often use mine without adding my mixer and cd decks, but that's just me, it definatly works well either way. The mk2 is definatly not built as well as the rmx, though it's smaller size is an advantage for optimum mobility and tight spaces, but the RMX's bigger size is only by a few inches in length and width. I think the ones who call Hercules consoles "toys" have probably never used one for a mobile gig, the mk2 never let me down and the rmx will be used for it's first gig this coming wednesday.

But again, it depends on your needs as to what's right for you. Don't expect to get good scratching out of a Hercules & it's probably not the best option by itself for remix DJ's, the Vestax looks much better for that. The RMX & the MK2 are ideal for standard mobile gigs, it's a controller, a soundcard & a mixer all in one unit and most importantly, it does what it's supposed to do;^]

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I am a hobbyist and not into scratching so I think MK2 or the RMX will serve me well if they don't break down.

I used the HDJC MK2 infront of 1,500 people on a weekly basis, now I use the VCI-100.

I am with bagpuss!

I am still on the original Total control (8 months) and it is still perfect. I bought several more so I would have backups but have yet to open any boxes. if I am at a club there could be up to 600 in there per night every week. At large events there might be 12,000+ in attendance at a normal gig.

I will confess though. I have played with this in my kid's bedroom to practice during the winter.

As I mentioned in the other post several things have changed.

1. 22in monitor instead of dual 14"
2. Pioneer CDJ800mkII
3. Dropped the mic stand holding the trigger finger. Now the xsession pro and trigger finger are both on the music stand to the right.
4. Insano rackmount PC instead of lappys.

I am still using the Behringer mixer too. I bought an Allen & Heath but there is no difference for what I use. Sometimes it might be stupid to wear tennis shoes when mountain climbing.

So if it is just for bedroom DJs then I guess I am one.

Nice setup. I've been trying to find some stands like the ones you have. Which Behringer pmodel is that? My table takes up to much space. Shoot me an email at mixmastertbone@hotmail.com.
