Post here the features you would like to see developed in Virtual DJ in the future. Describe what you want it to look like and for what kind of use (home, parties, clubs...)

I made a picture, it's kinda rough...
but I think it's self explanitory:
save n zoom if necessary =) |

This "3-d" helps us how? Your picture shows only a projection of the same
waveform on two dimentional planes. Seems like a waste of resources and
space? Unless the bottom one was a second deck or something...
However, there used to be a discussion of displaying the full waveform insted
of just filtered beats, but that was compromised in (i think) v3 with full display
in "song position" bar. |

the 3-d part was not the main interest of mine....
I did however fail to mention that I wish cue markers were more like Traktor. If you zoom in on this crude pic, you can see it. I'd also love to see bar counting lines. They're not necessary to the mix, more of reference to find find simular songs. |

Well if by more like Trakotor you mean to name the cue points, it's already possible
with the function edit_cuename. "Bar counting lines" puzzles me still. |

who cares about that.
there's more color. and that's already a plus. |

I don't understand how a 3-D waveform helps. Sound waves by definition are only two-dimensional data: amplitude and time. What information will the third axis represent? |

I'm confused on how color or '3d' will make the waveform more usefull..
(usefull enough to waste CPU bandwidth on it).

actually, if you take a look at serato's scratch live. you will see that their wave form is multi colored.
each segment is represented by a different color.
imagine if you will. the 5 stages of a song represented by 5 different colors.
example
1 intro -- gray
2 chorus - blue
3 vocal - red
2 chorus - blue
3 vocal - red
2 chorus - blue
4 breakdown - green
2 chorus - blue
5 outro - white |

Yeah I hear ya Shahar, but imho colorization in such way is unnecessary (and let's forget about the
suggested pic at the top which gives no color information whatsoever). The waveform already
displays cue positions, if anyone wants to shuffle quickly through these parts the song has to be
analyzed and cue points placed manually, and to be quick you need to know or see cue numbers
(maybe with comments). Colors won't help much, the waveform speaks for itself, it's the display
of cue points and their comments that gives the needed info.
The only really useful addition imo would be the minute markers, which could give you a good
picture of timing, which I suggested already but probably wasn't considered by devs. |

I think there is a lot more detailed information that the overview and waveform can show.
at the moment we only haev the amplitude of around 100Hz for the left ch shown as a waveform. Representing colours as different frequencies could allow you to - at a glance - differentiate a vocal solo and a drum solo. also the 3D aspect could allow you to show the aplitude of all the freqencys and not just one. i think the picture at the top was just a rough demonstration.
also for those that dont know, traktor (for one) has the option to show the current play position and then show markers 16 beats ahead, 32 beats ahead etc etc. This is good for telling you if you have one measure till the break etc or two. Or if its one of those annoying breaks that comes in after 5 bars not 4 like you were thinking! messing your whole mix up! Also you can click directly on them to skip ahead or behind a measure at a time. (just like the 7 and 9 keys on the num pad in VDJ)
Some good ideas that i would love to see developed, and Id like to say that i suggested them in this very forum about 4 years ago ; )
