For some unknown reason about 4 hours into my show tonight vitual dj popped up a little message with a smiley face on it saying there was a fatal error, but if I clicked on the smiley face it would fix it and everything would be fine.....well no it wasn't, I quickly opened windows media player and cued up a song, I clicked on the smiley face and VDJ just shut down in the middle of the song so I quickly started WMP and continued on figureing I would just do a radio show style the rest of the night but to my surprise in the middle of the WMP song VDJ just loaded up and started, naturally I switched back to it!!!!!!!!! About 20 minuted later it did the same thing, then for the last 2 hours of the night it ran perfectly again.

The first time it happened I was running video and loading another video track (had text 2d plug-in running), the second time it happened I was playing a video and loading entering a title int he search dialog (no plug-ins running at that time).

Anybody else ever had this problem and does anybody know why it hapens and how to prevent it form happening again?

The machine is running xp, service pack 2 + all the updates, latest direct x, windows media player 11 with all codecs up to date, Atlon xp 64 x2 dual core runing at 4200+, 2 gig ram, Nvidia 9600gt OC 512mg ddr3 memory 540khz speed and all other programs are shut down.

go to the VDJ folder under your documents and post the text in the file called crashguard.txt. Then the dev team can better tell you what possibly happened to cause these crashes.

The Crashguard text file will tell why..

although holes for crashes are closed by each release, there can be such things as bad skin etc.

So if you post that files contect, we'll have a clue ;)

I have a similar machine except in vista format.. I have a ramdom shutdown only when I work with videos. Audio can play for 24 hours straight.

Same for me as above, had a crash last week, then another one this Saturday just gone. Seems stable as a rock with audio only.
Crashed after several hours use, these are the first ever real issues I've had. Kinda makes me nervous!

Here is what the crashguard txt said. Strangely, it only seems to of logged one crash, or should i say, one date... there were two!?

Crash ID=004767d7 (date=803090041, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=66833800, excode=c0000005 (0,36c8fc8))
Crash ID=0046ce19 (date=803090044, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=8b484c8b, excode=c0000005 (0,4c))

I would love to know more on this, any ideas?

These two crashes are new in our crash database. They will be analysed as fast as possible.

Do you remember what you did when it appeared?
Do you use an external controller?
Do you have an external HD?

thanks again for the reports

Crash ID=7c9c6f90 (date=803172308, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=65007200, excode=c0000005 (0,ffffffff))

It's an external crash (a plugin, mapper or a library).

Crash ID=0046ce19 (date=803090044, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=8b484c8b, excode=c0000005 (0,4c))

It's an error in the skin you are using.

Crash ID=004767d7 (date=803090041, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=66833800, excode=c0000005 (0,36c8fc8))

Crash ID=004767f1 (date=803172330, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=8b421451, excode=c0000005 (0,14))

Both are linked to the problem that we have named on the forum "Invalid folder" in order to identify it.
We don't know why it crashes randomly only on some computers.
The only thing we know is where it crashes in the code and if you want to reproduce it on your computer you have:

  • either to click on the desktop or a folder (when you explore your HD) or a favorite in the tree of the browser
(there is absolutely no link with Virtual Folder !!)
  • or to reset the search field (= when you clear the search field after writing into it)

Maybe try with the same folder or the same search.

Hope you can reproduce it with that and tell us why you have such problems. It would help us to understand a mystery and I could sleep at last in peace.

@chaffer

Which processor do you have?
XP SP1, SP2 or Vista?
Which skin do you use?

It confirms what I have just said above

I do have folders with names that start with "=" could that be the problem?

Could you give me an example (all the pathname)

I have just tested your example of path and I have found no bug so it's something else.

Could it be linked to the warmness of your hard drive? When this one becomes too hot maybe Windows looses data concerning the folder.

Can you execute a "chkdsk /r" on your HDs in order to verify the sectors/clusters

@Papaoke
You are also affected by the "invalid folder" mystery but in you case you have 2 different values "200087" and "15" contrary to others who only have "14" (interesting for me)
Can you read what I wrote above about the "invalid folder" problem and try to add some new information here if you can.
