Hi guys

I am intending to use an external harddrive for all my mp3 files with the laptop i am purchasing....

Has anyone got any thoughts on the best connection type to use... i.e. USB, Firewire, USB2 ? I am planning to go out and spend, spend, spend !! tomorrow and want to make sure my new laptop has the required ports..

Also has anyone used the new EXdigy card yet, I need to get a second external soundcard two and was wondering what one to get !!

Its gonna be an expensive week !!!

I want to make sure i get it right !!!

Thanx all in advance

I use an external harddisk with a PCMCIA card on my laptop. Never had problems.

firewire is the most suitable solution. Heard about some problems with extigy sound cards and atomix (see other pretty old topics)

firewire, or external SCSI. avoid USB for data storage, USB is fairly slow.

SCSI is a bit more expensive, but has alot of advantages if you plan to do alot of data-intensive work with the external drive.. but for playing MP3s firewire is a charm :D

I havn't used one of these, but I've been intrigued by them:

http://www.midiman.net/products/m-audio/quattro.php

4 channel (2 stereo channels, that is) external USB sound box with full WDM support - IE 2 seperate WDM devices, rather than using 3D.

Anyone used these with atomix? I think i'll have to get one if they are confirmed to work with atomix...
