Also, what mode do you have the effects in? Single or Multi?
If it's in single mode, then it will only control the first effect. Please read the VDJ manual and the VDJ setup guide for whatever controller you have.

As far as i can see from our user stats page, you are probably using a DDJ-SZ, so please consult its manual http://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/pioneer/ddjsz/effects.html and the Effects chapter of VDJ manual http://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/virtualdj8/interface/decks/decksadvanced/effects.html
Also make sure the skin you are using supports the automatic Single/Multi Effect modes and you are using either the default mapping for the DDJ-SZ or a recently updated custom one.
