Finally have bitten the bullet & downloaded Virtual DJ with the intention of going fully digital. Does anyone know if my Numark iCD3 Mix can be used as a controller ?

No, you're out of luck there - it doesn't have a USB B port.
If you're after something to get you started, there's the Numark DJ2GO (under £50) which would allow you to control the basic functions.
