Topic: change serial number, change version

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi
I want my old mac to work as a backup for my new one.

On the old mac I have a 7.02 installed from a company I used to play dj gigs for with one license number, now I have bought my own license installed 7.05.

on the old one : Should I deinstall the old 7.02 ver first ?
If deinstall is necesary which virtualdj files should I backup first ?
or does the deinstall proces just deinstall the license information ?
Regards
Steen

You can install your own version over the top of the old one.

Make sure that you make a backup of your database first (You should do this on a regular basis anyway):

http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20backup%20my%20VirtualDJ%20database%20and%20settings.html

Then delete the .plist settings file:

http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MAC%20Edit%20Plist.html

Then download and install your own version from the Download Center:

http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html

It should prompt you for your own serial number when you first run it.

Hi
Thanks, did it and it worked with no problems :-)

how do I sync the backup mac ?
Keep the music libraries updated, easy to understand ;-)

copy the vdj database.xml file, since this is the backup process vdj describes

I cant find another way to sync virtual folders,

how about samples ? Im not using samples at the moment, but just would like to know.

regards
Steen

You would need to find and use a file synchronisation utility to do this - Try searching Google for: sync files between macs

Providing your music is stored in exactly the same location on both computers, all you need to do is copy the VirtualDJ database across from your main computer to your backup.

If you also want playlists, effects, skins, samples, etc. to be copied across, you can also sync the entire VirtualDJ home folder (Normally found in /users/YOURNAME/library/VirtualDJ or in older versions in /users/YOURNAME/documents/VirtualDJ - If you can't find or see the Library folder, please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MAC.%20Reveal%20hidden%20Library%20folder.html )

Virtual folders are stored as part of the VirtualDJ database. They should appear on your backup computer providing that your music is in the same folder structure and you have also copied your VirtualDJ database across.
