Hi all

My gig PC is running with a 2.6Ghz Core Two Duo processor. I was just wondering if the Dual Core was faster/slower whatever?

The Core2Duo is a dual core processor. Intel now also have the newer Core lines (i3, i5, i7 and i9) which if you're going to switch from a Core2Duo are where you want to be looking IMHO. A 2.6GHz C2D should be more than enough though - my laptop runs a 2.8GHz C2DEE and I never really have to worry about CPU usage :)

Thanks

I was wondering if there was a difference as the laptop I have has a "Pentium" badged as Dual Core and the one on the gig pc is badged as Core 2 Duo.

Assume then that there is no difference between the processors.

If it's a Dual Core Pentium D then it's one of the older Netburst CPUs and is frankly rubbish. If it's a Pentium Dual-Core then it's based on the Core 2 CPU with less cache and stuff like virtualisation disabled.

Ok

The laptop CPU comes up as a T2130 running at 1.86Ghz?

Could explain why my gig pc runs about eleventymillion times better than my laptop. LOL

The laptop has been rubbish with VDJ. Even just the audio side seems to be a bit of a challenge for it, whereas the gig pc seems to do everything I ask of it without a hitch twitch or glitch.

The laptop will have to stay as an emailing machine and VDJ testbed. If it runs ok on the laptop its almost a dead cert that it will work well on the Gig PC. Just trying 6.0.3 or whatever the latest one is and it seems to run fine. So its on to the Gig machine with it.

Thanks for the info. There I was just thinking it was just Vista.

Core 2 Duo is a better processor than is Dual Core. Dual core is a pentium with 2 core and less cache memory and more power consumption.

VirtualDJ goes better in a Core 2 Duo laptop with Intel T7200 or better. Now many are P8600 or P9000 series processor that have more cache memory and better performance than a T2000 series laptop.

Intel Greater processor number are better processor features. Core i3 to i7 are quad core processors with Hyper threading (HT) capabilities.
