cstoll

Since this is about me... I'll toot my horn and jump up on a soap box.

Just a little US East Coast DJ that does nothing big like the fellow EuroDJ's on this board. But, I do have a couple of Club outlets and alot of Mobile opportunities to play. My day-to-day life is spent working as a Web Application developer, with the Music and DJ'ng on the weekends as a hobby. I am married with two beuatiful daughters and a supportive, lovely wife.

My music of choice is good European and UK House. got started DJing during the big Euro/UK House boom in the the US during the mid-90s. I can live with what is popular these days because the one lesson I learned is that is about the "PEOPLE". Also, I am a enjoyer of all music, every once in awhile - elevator music even beats out all others - its all about the mood.

Some suggestions to eliminate weird hums, noise or feedback, try using a one of the following:

1. Ground Lift plug on your mixer --Lift Plug here

2. Instead of regular RCA cable from soundcard to mixer use a ground loop isolator for each channel --Isolator Here

3. Then lastly it could be simply dirty power, try using this to plug your gear into instead of a surge bar --Battery Backup here
[This is one example, several types to choose from.]
*This is really handy for those that have external harddrives, will save your @$$ if there is a total loss of power on those mobile gigs. Plus, most backup devices also work as power conditioners to help clean up that dirty power.

Taking from this thread - http://www.virtualdj.com/forum/display.html?topic=11086 that discusses pops, crackles and latency issues.

Here is how my Maya is setup - BTW- I am still using DirectX 8.1 [2005-05-12 -- Upgraded to 9.0c for VDJ 3.x] and my Maya drivers are 2.5.5.

1. When I use the Maya44 Control Panel - Monitor In 1+2 and 3+4 are Muted, Input is at about 2/3 Full and Output is at Max (100%). When I close the control panel it keeps a service in the system tray - this is a Good Thing! Don't exit it, leave it running.

[With VDJ 3.x you can use the Auto-Config in the tab mentioned below. ]
2. In VDJ, Config, Sound Cards tab, scroll to the bottom and select ASIO Low Latency Timecode

-Select the 'Maya44 USBAudio ASIO Driver' in the drop down

-Click on the ASIO Config... button
---USB Tab - Device Maya44, checks in Output and Input, Sample Rate - 44.1kHz, Resolution 16bit
---ASIO Tab - ASIO Resolution 24 bit, System performance - Highspeed, everything else default
---Controls Tab - Same as Line 2 above.
---Close

-Config Timecode left and right (my settings are identical)
---Gain is about 15-20% from left
---Silence is the same as Gain
---Now I use the Vinyl so here are where things get different -
-----Vinyl Users - check in Software RIAA
-----CD Users - Software RIAA usually not necessary
-----Invert Stereo or Phase checked if you plugged things in backwards.
-----Turntable - obvious choices

And that's my setup... When I test my signal in the configuration window, I get a wave that falls between the Gain and Silence sliders with a 100% quality.
