I'm new to this, but decided to "spend once, cry once". I have found it to exceed my needs and expectations.
The touch screen is very responsive, bright, and high resolution. I suppose someone who is used to the tactile feel of real buttons would miss something, but for me, learning on this, I haven't seen the touch screen as offering any limitation. The buttons for hot cues seem to be about the same size as their tactile kin on the CDJ2000.
The build is a very heavy plastic. It seems very durable. It is relatively light in weight but doesn't seem cheap. The platter spins freely and there is no brake adjustment. At first, I didn't think I'd like this because I like the dampened feel of some other machines. However, once I'm playing, I don't even notice it--it is extremely responsive with no lag, I suppose that's what really counts.
All of the functions are intuitive and easy to learn which was quite a feat for this machine to offer someone brand new to many of the concepts. (Mastering the functions is the thing of practice! But I'm not fighting the machine, I'm building my experience.)
One of the reasons why I went with this was to be free of a laptop. Only needing the memory stick provides great freedom and one less level of complexity. I had looked closely at the XDJ XR but the limitation to 2 channels limited my interest in that item.
The beatmatching functions are an excellent crutch. They help me hear how things are supposed to sound and make it fun more quickly. OTOH, I can turn off sync and learn manually.
To put it simple this deck being half the price of the cdj 2000s has almost all if not all the features offered by its bigger cousin.
The link feature has never been included in a "budget" deck by Pioneer and it is just awesome,'also the perform section included in this deck let's you perform in live sets flawlessly and like a pro.
By now it has native support for traktor (you will have to upgrade the firmware on your xdj and use 2.7+ version of traktor) in case you are a laptop dj' but in my experience believe me when I tell you that you won't need any software. This decks are pretty accurate in terms of beat matching and counting,'that is due to the direct support for rekorbox that is embedded in the decks firmware so looping and beatmatching are really easy without any software.
It has also the quantize option which if you use with two or more decks connected via ethernet cable' function as a sync feature' but even if you are an old school dj and do not want to use this feature you can always deactivate it to mix manually and just use the dj link feature to access all your music from one source which can be any external disc formatted in a FAT 32 file system.
The screen is crisp and colorfull,'I love how it shows the beat grid which can be zoomed in or out depending your preferences. And speaking of preferences',all the settings you choose for your music library in rekordbox can be automatically imported to this decks.
In terms of build quality',this decks do feel lighter than the cdj 900 or cdj 2000s 'but that doesn't mean it feels cheaper,'the xdj feels solid and rugged,'the jogwheel is the same present in the top models of pioneer'only lacking the traction adjustment dial.
In conclusion,'I have seen many reviews positioning this decks as an entry level "bedroom" multiplayer' and maybe in terms of pricing they are,but in terms of features ,this decks are between the 900s and 2000s,if you want a deck with the features, look and feel of the flagship 2000s,you gotta take these, the learning curve you will experience when trying to play in a bigger club will be close to nothing.
I am updating by gear. I went from CDJ 1000's to these and so far I do not miss my old CD decks at all. I will say having a pair of these and using just one USB key between them is so much easier then going thru 100's of Cd's to find the tracks.
I wasn't sure if I would like Rekordbox since I have never used any type of dj software; but after using it for a few days it is a great addon. Simply make a playlist, add it to a USB stick and your off.
Maybe after I have made a few mixes I will add more. These are nice for those of us who want to have a solid media player and do not want to drop 4k for a pair of higher end CDJ 2000's, and who really wants to use Cd's anymore?

I mainly bought the XDJ-1000 to get used to playing with the professional gear at the clubs! This really is an awesome piece of DJ gear! It's comparable to a CDJ 2000 Nexus, except that it doesn't read CD's... Only USB drives. It has a really nice touch screen that allows you to access your music, Cue Points, BPM Sync, etc. It is also very light, but feels sturdy enough to last. Overall I am pretty happy with the XDJ-1000! If you're on a budget and want a decent player and willing to do without CD drives or SD slots... Then this is definitely for you!

If you don't use cd's why buy the cdj nexus 2000 for $1999 when this has slightly better screen & less buttons to go wrong since it's a touch screen and its far lighter for transporting It has no sd card slot but 99% of dj's use USB sticks anyway . Sound quality seems the same as nexus and its plug and play with Traktor & Serato I got new one for $800 on ebay
